What's going on?

Hi there.
Thanks for stopping by.

Was listening to some really great music on the way over to meet Mum, Dad, Steve and his girlfriend Sheila for lunch today.
We were singing along in the car, Dave and I.
Knew every word, and yet.
I hadn’t really ever properly digested the meaning of one song in particular.
Until today, that is.

So I came home and decided to share them with you,
it being Remembrance Sunday.

All you need is an ABC an ink pad and some paper.

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying.

Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying.

You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today.

Father, father
We don't need to escalate.

You see, war is not the answer,
For only love can conquer hate.

You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today.

And then there’s the chorus...

Good question.

So I got my little boy out, and pondered.
Stormy, troubled skies.

Let’s use the stamped words as a template to position the words on the same Rainbow River Parchment.

Move them a little if you wish. I did.
Really looks like a war-torn scene through the parchment,
doesn’t it.
Stamp on the front of the parchment.

There are those black edges again...

Add highlights from behind with a small ball tool on a soft mat.

Mount the word box on white card and add back into the scene.

I remember years ago, when my lad Mark was a teenager, we were talking about war and the insanity of it. Out of nowhere, he said,
“We can’t change history Mum, but hopefully we can learn from it.” From the mouths of babes.
Are we though? Are we learning?

If you have five minutes, listen to this song.

You see, war is not the answer,
For only love can conquer hate.

Love & hugs,
Barb

  7. That song takes me back to my college days :) I didn't realise the significance of the lyrics until I saw them written down. Loved the song even more then. Thank you for the memories... and the art work of course x

  8. So many ordinary people who feel the same; so many, no doubt, who prayed for peace today, yet still the conflict goes on.
Lovely artwork that also makes us think. Thank you, Jan x

  9. Hi Barb. You were singing in the car, and I was singing along watching the service from the Cenotaph and the ensuing march past. I suddenly thought about how I knew all the words. The Sky Boat Song - yes I knew all the words - I sang them in a school music competition when I was 10 ! (Heck I can still remember the words over 60 years on) and then all the songs like Tipperary etc. That brought back memories of when Mum and Dad were in the British Legion, and reminded me of the Legion Christmas parties, when even the children sang all those songs, and that took me back 65 years or so. I don't supposed we really understood the meaning of all those songs then - we just sang them because everybody did and we all knew the words.

  20. I never really appreciated the meaning behind the lyrics before, so thank you. My book group are reading "Crossing Qalandiya", which is so thought provoking - it's a series of letters between two young mothers who meet by chance in Geneva. One lives in Palestine, and the other in Israel, and through their friendship and correspondence they appreciate the conflict through one another's eyes and the impact it is having on their children. If you get the chance it's worth reading - just goes to show how important respect, communication and understanding are in the world x
