A Tile technique.

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.

The day ran away with me today.
There we were, merrily recording Youtube videos..
it was going so well!

Then I got a call asking where my project for the April issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft is - I am a regular contributor to that magazine - have been for years.

Zut alors! Shucks. Dang. Blast and Shitndeedee.
I completely spaced it.
Grrr....

SO.
Quick change of horses, and she’s galloped off in another direction.
I do hope they let me submit my project late.
It won’t be the first time I have missed the bus.

So this is one I tried, but decided it didn’t pass mag muster.
That said, I quite liked the idea, and the one I will send in if they’ll take it late is using the same stamp - but much brighter.

Just love these magpies.

I know folks are superstitious around magpies. But I think they are a beautiful bird, and invariably start chanting the One’s for Sorrow verse as soon as one swoops into the garden!
Where’s his mate? Where’s the Two for joy?

Well, here are three for a girl...

Stamp onto a piece of the new Rainbow River Petite card.

using a black Radiance pad, or a black Archival.
The Blackout pad is black black.
Leave it to dry a while.

While it’s drying, cut a hole, a mask out of a sheet of copy paper.

Lay the aperture over the DRY stamped image.
Attach it with masking tape at the back, so that it doesn’t move.
Squish the Versamark pad through the aperture.

This is when you find out whether you waited long enough for the ink to dry.
Grrr....

Remove the mask. Pour Clear embossing powder over the whole things, tap off excess,

and heat emboss, to create a tile.

It’s a neat technique, but then I wished I had made the magpies a little brighter before turning them into a tile, so I ended up not doing this!
Typical.

But now I must go indoors before I get
Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired.
What am I saying? I’ve already ticked 3 of them !!!

HALT.
Time to go find Dave, eat and chill.

Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. Hi Barb,
Well I like this one! I'm sure they'll let you send your contribution in a little late - put it this way, they'd be stupid not to! My petite pads and the new plates arrived today and they are fab. The colours on the card seems to be so much brighter than the paper and the images are so sharp - love them.
Hope you have a good evening, chilling with Dave, love and hugs Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Been a miserable day here today, hope its been better where you are. Struggled with swimming this morning- kept coughing and think I swallowed more water than enough! I was determined to finish my 64 lengths though!! Went to a fifties tearoom with some friends for lunch which was nice. Going to play with my new plates tomorrow hopefully. Sending love and hugs to you all, Alison xxxx

  2. I think it looks good Barb. A good demo. My New plates arrived today, they are brilliant, can't wait to use them. Forgot to order the new card but the Design Club sale will be here soon so I can order it at the same time. Hope they let you put your article in late for the mag. I try to remember to buy that one so I can keep your step by step.xxx

  3. I hope you got everything essential sorted so you can relax for the rest of the evening. We have been quite lucky with the weather today, with the fog cleared away in the middle of the night and the sun broke through nicely to cheer us up. My bedroom was the target today. I decided to swap mattresses and persuading the protector to stretch over the brand new mattress nearly finished me. The sheet was fine, but the protector just did not want to help me. Tomorrow is when I take a roll of black sacks in there. I might be there a while so can you send someone to find me if I don't make it out by teatime. I need to be ready for my first watercolour class of the year. Have a nice chamomile tea and relax. xxx Maggie

  5. Magpies are OK as long as you remember to say "Morning Mr magpie Sir." when you only spot one. I have the stencils but I don't have this stamp, although I do like it a lot so will have to add it to my every growing list. I would imagine the magazine will hold your spot, can't imagine them saying you're too late! XX

  6. Evening bloggy friends, wet here today so the children have been inside! Wet playtime...I need to craft! On a brighter note my set of wee word chains were waiting for me when I got home and they are just perfect! So versatile in the smaller size and I already have a project in mind for them. Roll on the weekend so I can play. XX

    2. Hi Donna,
You have my sympathy - wet playtimes! Dread to think what primary kids are like on them! My op is supposed to be sometime in Feb so I'm hoping it won't be delayed. Love and hugs Alison xx

  9. The colours in Magpies are beautiful, noisy birds though. The line One for sorrow is because they mate for life so should not be on their own. Hope tomorrow works out better, just enjoy a quiet evening. xx

  12. Hi Barbara
Whoops I'm sure the magazine will wait for your article otherwise they will have a big gap! I do like the tile though, it looks great on the new card. Do you know what I like about you, well there are many things really, but one in particular, you are always honest about the way you do things. Now we know to really let the ink dry before trying to put the ink on top! I hope you are chilling and relaxing with Dave.
    Love Diane xxx

  15. Well I like it too! Hope you've had a nice, cosy evening with Dave. I've dug out a cross stitch I began a while back, stitching these past couple of evenings has made a nice change as been in the living room with my OH instead of in my little craft room. Xxx

  17. This glossy panel looks fabulous over the pretty blue Rainbow River card Barbara and it has an intensity of colour which is great. I'm sure that your piece for the magazine will be accepted even if it is a bit late as I'm sure they value your contribution greatly. Hope you have had a relaxing evening. x

  18. Hello Barb, I am sure that you will come up with some awesome and inspiring article for the magazine and they will wait for it. Love what you have done with the magpie stamp, that would look great as a framed piece. Hope you were not too "hangry", and found Dave, had dinner and chilled. Take care all. Bx
